Set in the picturesque village of East Coker, this charming 15th century inn provides the ideal base from which to explore the Heritage South Coast, including Dorchester, Glastonbury and Bath.

To reflect its rich heritage, the Helyar Arms aims to provide a rustic and relaxed atmosphere, with traditional entertainment in the form of a skittle alley, an inviting open log fire in the beamed bar and locally sourced home-cooked food, prepared to order. In the warmer months you can also enjoy a drink in the pleasant garden.

The Helyar Arms also provides an adjoining bar, the Apple Loft, suitable for private parties. It can seat up to 40 people or 24 round one large table.

All of the rooms are named after local landmarks. They are comfortable, characteristic and attractively furnished.

Food & beverage

Our menu is an award-winning combination of classic pub favourites, modern European cooking and a hint of the exotic. Dishes are prepared fresh on the premises, using local products from local suppliers, wherever possible. You can choose from a light bar snack or a 3-course meal.

Vegetarians and children are also catered for.

Food is served from 12:00 - 14:30 and from 18:30 - 21:30 (21:00 on Sunday).

Area information

South Somerset is an idyllic part of the country, ideal for walkers, bird watchers and people who appreciate the beauties of rural England. Nearby attractions include Lyme Regis, Wells, Weymouth and Yeovil.

The famous poet T.S Eliot was from the village of East Coker, and the explorer William Dampier was born here in 1651, so there is lots to explore during your stay.

Please note that the residence is closed from 15:00 - 18:00 Monday - Saturday. If you intend to arrive within these hours you will need to contact the hotel directly prior to arrival.

Check-in on a Sunday needs to be before 16:00.
