Hotel information

Please note that you book in at 65 Cockburn Street, which is a 3-minute walk away, as due to the historic nature of the building it is not possible to have a reception at the building. Staff will be delighted to help you with your bags to your room.

Please note that there is no lift in the historic building, there is the original turnpike stairwell. If you have reduced mobility or small children in prams, please request an apartment on the lower floor.

Membership to The Escape Gym and Cowshed Spa, at The Scotsman hotel, is also included. It is a 5-minute walk away and has a stainless steel pool. Guests are also entitled to a fantastic 10% off all Cowshed treatments.

Room information

All apartments have a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room. The kitchens are equipped with everything you could need. The bathrooms have Molton Brown products. You will also find a widescreen TV with satellite and a DVD player.

The front apartments overlook the Royal Mile. The rear apartments look out towards Princes Street, the Walter Scott Monument, the Georgian New Town. On a clear day you will clearly see the Firth of Forth.

If you are planning to stay and have mobility difficulties, please request an apartment on a lower floor.

Food & beverage

You can have breakfast, lunch or an early supper at The Southern Cross Cafe, which is next to Central Reservations. It offers fantastic breakfasts and serves food all day. It is also licensed.

Area information

You are situated next to St Giles Cathedral. Edinburgh Castle is at the top of the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace at the bottom. Princes Street is a 10-minute walk away.

You can be at Harvey Nichols, the world-famous Jenners, George Street or Princes Street within 10 or 15 minutes. Only 10 minutes away are Victoria Street and the Grassmarket, which has wonderful boutique shops and great cafes. There is a diverse selection of restaurants.

On Foot
From Waverley Train Station :
- Take the Market Street exit and when you come out onto Market Street, turn right.
- Cross the pedestrian crossing and you will see an entrance to Fleshmarket Close.
- Go up the stairs, then at the top you will see on your left the Southern Cross Cafe with a blue awning.
- You will check-in next to this, at 65 Cockburn Street.
- Check-in and then a receptionist will assist you to Royal Mile Apartments, which are at the top of Cockburn Street.

By Taxi
From the airport:
The airport is 8 miles (12.9 km) from the Royal Mile Residence. A taxi should take approximately 20 to 25 minutes depending on traffic.

By Bus
From the airport:
Take the Airport Express bus. This departs approximately every 10 minutes during peak times. Stay on the bus until it terminates on Waverley Bridge in the centre of Edinburgh. When you get off the bus, turn left and head across the road and up Cockburn Street. Check-in is located at 65 Cockburn Street, next to the Southern Cross Café.

Important information

Please check-in at 65 Cockburn Street, at Central Reservations. From here, staff can take your bags to your apartment.

At the entrance to the apartments is an iron gate with a secure code. All apartments have a swipe card to gain entry. There is an entry phone inside each apartment.
