Area information
Selcuk is a traditional Turkish town. It is within a 3 km radius of Ephesus and the airport. The town hosts a number of religious landmarks such as the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of Saint John the Apostle.
Ephesus has a large selection of Roman landmarks and it is believed that only about 15% has been found. The temple of Hadrian, the Celsus Library and the Gate of Augustus are only a few of the excavated monuments in Ephesus. The ancient city is a popular sight for religious, cultural and historical enthusiasts alike.
The Ephesus Museum is located in Selcuk, and hosts artefacts from the Temple of Artemis and surrounding area. There are two statues of the Goddess Artemis, marble portraits, gold and funerary items, coloured glassware, surgical instruments, children’s toys and furniture.
Outdoors of the museum you have a walled garden with restored Ottoman buildings, displays of old trades and a nomadic tent. Selcuk also has a 400-year old hammam and folk museum.
