Area information
Murten is a medieval town surrounded by historic walls. In the 15th century, the old town was the setting of one of the most well-known battles in Swiss history. In summer, the lake area and the Vully (hill of vineyards across the lake) are wonderful hiking areas. Thanks to Murten's central location, there are plenty of cities (Fribourg, Avenches, Bern, Biel, Neuchâtel) in the surrounding area to visit. Besides the historic sights, Murten features museums, cinemas and a public swimming pool.
