Hotel Splendide Royal

Established in 1887, the 5-star Splendide Royal with its turn-of-the-century character is Lugano's most fashionable hotel, located on Lugano's lakeside main street.

The city centre with its elegant boutiques can be reached within a walk of just a few minutes along the lake.

The hotel opened in 1902 at the southern end of town, next to the lake, on the grounds of the 19th-century Villa Merlina, known for its spectacular gardens. The owners, the Fedele family, enlarged the existing structure and opened a 125-bed hotel, originally called the Hotel Splendide.

The hotel soon gained a steady clientèle among the wealthy Europeans who frequented this summer resort. In 1977 an Italian hotel company, Roberto Naldi Hotels, bought the hotel from the Fedele family and in 1983 they added a new wing with 53 guest rooms.

Open-air parking is available free of charge and garage parking is available at an additional cost.

Please note that the swimming pool is closed from the end of September and opens again at the beginning of the summer season, as soon as the weather is warm enough. You can use the spa facilities of the Grand Hotel Eden (500 metres away, hotel bus service) throughout the whole year.
