Hotel Villan

Situated in the Eriksberg district, just a 10-minute ferry ride from Gothenburg city centre, this intimate waterfront hotel offers rooms with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels.

Hotel Villan is housed in a refurbished wooden building from the early 1900s. The stylish guest rooms have a seating area and a work desk, and each room features a tiled bathroom with underfloor heating.

Free hot drinks are available at all times in the lobby. Villan's breakfast buffet is served at the harbour-view Restaurant River Café, on the pier, right next to the hotel.

Our unique waterfront location which is just a stone’s throw from downtown Göteborg means that you have a choice of options. Take a lovely stroll along the embankment followed by a meal at Restaurant River Café with the city lights twinkling in the background or, for a change of pace, take a boat ride into town.

Villan is an historic building that was built in 1916 as the Eriksberg’s headquarters of the shipyard management and design office. Göteborg flourished as a shipbuilding town and Sweden became a world-leading shipbuilding nation.

When the shipbuilding era drew to a close in 1980, there was no longer a need for the executive residence. The 800-ton building was transported on barges along the river and back to land, moving it fifty meters from its original location. The bill for new foundations along with moving and repairing “Villan” was substantial—or more precisely SEK20 Million. But preserving a cultural-historical quarter requires effort.

Göteborg’s shipyard quarters with its fine old traditions are at present undergoing a slow and painstaking transformation. Cranes and overhead gantries are preserved while the residents of Göteborg make their homes in the new buildings lining the embankment. Eriksberg has morphed from a lively shipbuilding arena into a flourishing residential area.

Throughout the hotel, materials and colour schemes are carefully selected to promote relaxation and harmony.

Each room has cable and wireless broadband access, a 32-inch flat-screen TV, and a safe with space for a laptop. All room doors have been fitted with a peep hole for our guests’ safety.

All rates include breakfast at a nearby café, which overlooks the harbour.

Together with the Restaurant River Café the hotel forms the perfect venue for conferences and dinners. The fabulous location, the generous areas for large groups and intimate rooms for smaller parties all contribute to the experience.

The international cuisine is complemented by the exclusive surroundings.

Today Eriksberg has morphed from a lively shipbuilding arena into a flourishing residential area. Former industrial buildings have become sports halls and many business companies have relocated to the area. Ericsson, Semcon, Caran, Hotell 11, Eriksbergshallen and SVT are a few of the enterprises represented here.

It would probably be hard to find any other example in the world where the outcome has been as successful as it has been here in Göteborg.
