Area information
Frombork is a small picturesque town on the Vistula Lagoon. The town is a popular destination for tourists in the summer, attracted by the unique architecture of Cathedral Hill, the town’s rich history and, most significantly, Nicolaus Copernicus. Copernicus lived in Frombork from 1510 to 1543 and it was here that he finished his master work, De revolutionibus orbium coelestium. Copernicus died in Frombork in 1543 and was buried in the cathedral.
The town is also the home of the Holy Spirit hospital, which has housed exhibits dedicated to the history of medicine since the 1970s.
In summer, from mid-May to mid-September, organised cruises by ship and by hydrofoil run from Frombork to Krynica Morska and Kaliningrad. In the summer, tourists can also use the open-air swimming pool and the sports centre and tennis courts.
