25 kilometers from Bar is the largest lake in the Balkans. The lake is 50 kilometers long and 14 kilometers wide. Part of the Skadar Lake belongs to Albania, while 63,20% of the lake belongs to Montenegro. There are many islands on the lake popularly referred to as „gorice“ (little forests). The Skadar lake is a well-known hunting area. Sailing tours on the Skadar Lake are organized with little boats.
About 3 kilometers south in the direction to Ulcinj the largest urban agglomeration of ruins in the territory of Montenegro is situated. The town contains 240 buildings in ruins, with narrow winding street and square of an irregular shape. The building are made of trimmed rock with one or several floors. Several building and objects, the Turkish bath, powder tower and clock are from the Turkish period , as well as the aqueduct with which the old town was being supplied with drinking water. A special attraction of the Old Bar is the „pjaca“-market where the people selling are dressed in the traditional clothes of this region and offer domestic products and goods, such as citrus fruits, olives, olive oil from the region of Bar,cheese and different hand crafts.
The old olive tree is a monument of nature under protection of law since 1963. It’s over 2000 years old and is considered the oldest tree in Europe.
