Venice is the capital of the Veneto region and this beautiful, romantic city is also one of the region’s main attractions. Visit St. Mark’s Square, Palazzo Ducale, Canale Grande and the Rialto Bridge, or alternatively explore Venice’s many fascinating museums. The surrounding islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello are also well worth a visit.

Padova is the oldest city in Northern Italy and historically was a popular site for pilgrimages. You can visit the city’s impressive historic centre, the famous Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua, the picturesque and brightly coloured market, the Giotto frescos and the castle, called the Castello. Its main tower has been converted into an astronomical observatory known as Specola.

The Euganei Hills are famous for their wine, but their unique charm and natural beauty make them a great spot for a long walk. At the foot of the hills, you will find Abano Terme, a spa town famous for its natural hot springs, healing waters and mud baths.

In Verona, you can visit the famous Roman amphitheatre, the Arena, as well as the balcony where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet purportedly had their romantic assignation.

For children, the main attraction has to be Gardaland. The largest amusement park in Italy, Gardaland is in Peschiera del Garda.
