There has been a fortification on this site since pre-Roman times. The hotel’s current structure dates back to the 18th century, when the tower formed part of the town’s defences. Some of the building’s beautiful ancient features are still visible today, including original stone arches and doorways.

After the middle ages, the fortification was inhabited by clergymen, in particular Don Gabriele Volpe and Don Antonio Murano, a clergyman in Atena in the second half of the 18th century.

The old family chapel still survives to this day and the ancient stairway is also still a carefully preserved architectural feature.

The hotel has 14 comfortable rooms, elegantly furnished in a classic, traditional 18th century style. There are 11 double/twin rooms, of which 3 can accommodate an extra additional bed. There are 2 single rooms, of which one can be converted into a double room and there is one suite.

All rooms have panoramic views.

The hotel’s restaurant consists of a series of separate, small, elegant rooms. The individual rooms provide quiet and privacy, ideal for intimate candlelit dinners or private business lunches and dinners. The restaurant serves authentic local specialities and traditional Italian food, all accompanied by elegant, impeccable service.

The small town of Atena Lucana overlooks the Vallo di Diano and is part of the national park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano.

The hotel is located just few minutes from the Vallo di Diano’s main attractions, such as Certosa di San Lorenzo in Padula, Grotte dell'Angelo in Pertosa, the Battistero di San Giovanni in Fonte, and Fonti, with its historic centre and the Macchiaroli di Teggiano castle. The hotel is close to the area’s main road, the A3 motorway (or Autostrada Salerno-Reggio Calabria), meaning it has great access by road to the whole of the surrounding region. The hotel is a great base for touring the area and exploring all the attractions the region has to offer.

The hotel is situated right in the historic centre of the old Atena Lucana, the Santuario of San Ciro and the Archaeological Museum are just a short walk away.

Atena Lucana is also few kilometres away from the most beautiful cities of the Basilicata region, the Maratea beaches, the historic centre of Brienza and its Castle, Caracciolo.
