Area information
The nearby Skógar Folk Museum is one of Iceland’s finest museums and is just a 5 minute walk from the hotel.
One of the most significant attractions in the local area is the beautiful waterfall, Skógafoss. The waterfall is one of the biggest and most spectacular in Iceland, Skógafoss is the last waterfall in the Skógaá River and there are another twenty or so waterfalls upstream. A footpath leads up by the river, providing a good view of the many falls.
Horses are available at Ytri-Skógar and nearby, Holt offer a variety of horseback treks using Fjallhestar.
During summer, snowmobile trips are on offer to cross the nearby Mýrdalsjökull glacier.
5 kilometres east of Skógar is the Sólheimajökull glacier, which can be explored on foot and is only 10 minutes from the road.
Skogar is approximately 5 km from the coast and a track leads across the coastal sands.
Paradisarhellir (Paradise Cave) is on the nearby farm of Fit, outlaws reputedly took refuge in this cave in the 16th century.
5 kilometres west of Skógar is the farm of Seljavellir, which has an open-air swimming pool.
