Situated at the entrance to the Highlands of Iceland at 64°11´50.56 N and 19°17´07.42 W The Highland Centre, Hrauneyjar offers a pivotal point to explore the beautiful and mystical interior of the Highlands. Only 150 km from Reykjavik, all year round access to the region is by excellent paved roads.

The guest house has a well known restaurant offering hearty meals. Other amenities in the area include a petrol station, a bar, an information centre, a fishing centre, a hot tub, service facilities, a TV room, and a shop selling an assortment of goods and food articles.

We can also provide daily weather and road reports for travellers venturing into the Highlands and many times act as a centre for excursions heading there.

The Highland Centre offers both made up beds and sleeping bag accommodation including 26 rooms with double beds, 30 rooms with twin beds and 17 additional rooms with twin beds.

This building is also equipped with public cooking facilities. No such cooking facilities are offered elsewhere on the Hrauneyjar property.

The guest house has a well known restaurant that serves hearty meals and can cater for up to up to 180 guests.

Travel information

Directions from Reykjavik:
Take Highway Road one, which is the main ring road around Iceland, east through the mountains towards Selfoss. Pass through Selfoss and drive east towards Hella. 10 km east of Selfoss turn left onto road no. 30.

Continue 15 km following the signs for Sprengisandur and then turn right onto road no. 32. This road will take you 60 km to an intersection where you find road no. 26 (F26), follow road F26 and after 10 km you find the Highland Centre & Guesthouse Hrauneyjar on your right hand side and Hotel Highland 1.4 km further on your left.

Directions from Keflavik:
Take the main road towards Reykjavik and look for signs for road one on your right hand side. Upon reaching the junction (roundabout) take Highway Road one (main ring road around Iceland) east through the mountains towards Selfoss.
Pass through Selfoss and drive east towards Hella. 10 km east of Selfoss turn left onto road no. 30. Continue 15 km following the signs for Sprengisandur and then turn right onto road no. 32.
This road will take you 60 km to an intersection where you will find road no. 26 (F26), follow road F26 and after 10 km you find the Highland Centre & Guesthouse Hrauneyjar on your right hand side and Hotel Highland 1.4 km further on your left.

Keflavik Airport: 190 km north east 190 minutes.
Reykjavik: 150 km north east 120 minutes.
