The locals are proud to call Speyer the most Italian of all cities in the Palatinate, as the town features numerous ice cream parlours, sidewalk cafés, wine parlours and bistros. Between the Speyer Cathedral and the Old Gate (“Altpoertel”) and even on the banks of the Rhine you find numerous venues and locations for small and large festivities. The town transforms itself into a large open-air festival in the summer.
