The recreation area of the Harz offers plenty of attractions. For example, a short drive takes you to the 1000-year-old imperial city of Goslar with its historic Old Town and mining museum "Rammelsberg", both of which are UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. In the nearby town of Lautenthal you find the museum mine "Lautenthal Glück", where you can travel into the mine along the old mining railway and go rowing in old drainage galleries underground.
