Situated on the outskirts of the Dresdner Heide (Dresden Heath), Alberstadt is one of Germany’s largest garrison cities. It developed at the end of the 19th century.

At nearby Obrichtplatz you find a museum of military history housed within an impressive building. Within walking distance you also find the military academy, the regional council, the custom office and the garrison church whose 90-metre spire towers above its surroundings and offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Elbe Valley.

Along Königsbrücker Straße you find an area where parties and events are held in former factory buildings.

From the motorway A4:
- Exit for Dresden-Hellerau onto Radeberger Straße, towards the city centre. After about 1.5km (with an ARAL gas station on your right-hand side) turn left into Stauffenbergallee.
- After about 1.5km (after passing the Holiday Inn Dresden on your right-hand side) turn right and follow the main road into Buchenstrasse.

From the airport:
- Drive along Flughafenstraße. Turn left into Karl-Marx-Straße.
- After about 1 km turn right into Königsbrücker Straße.
- After 3 km turn right into Stauffenbergallee. After about 150m turn left and follow the main road into Buchenstraße.

Please note that the adjacent sauna area will be closed for renovation from 21 July 2008 to 17 August 2008. Pool, fitness area and solarium are not affected and can be used.
