Chata Vatra

Vatra Cottage is one of the highest-situated mountain cottages in the Czech Republic, located on the ridges of the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) at 1,230 metres above sea level.

It can be found amidst the picturesque Sedmidolí area in a wonderful mountain landscape with superb views over Špindlerův Mlýn. Špindlerův Mlýn is one of the most important ski resorts in the Czech Republic, not just in the Giant Mountains. The cottage is the ideal place for a family holiday, featuring a private ski run for beginners and moderately advanced skiers. Ski runs for the more advanced can be accessed via a ski lift, only 200 meters away. But you can enjoy a number of sporting activities in every season and relax in the pure mountain air.

If you have had a high workload and are feeling tired, it’s time to take a break. The Vatra Cottage is the ideal place to spend at least one week of peace and quiet on the ridges of the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše).

Our guests can relax in a sauna right beside the main building, close to a picturesque mountain stream. In the wintertime, you can cool down in the snow. We can arrange for you to have a massage or some physiotherapy right at the cottage. If you are interested in this service, please tell us when making the booking.

Apart from several ski runs for advanced skiers in close vicinity, we have a private ski lift, which is about 250 metres long. Evening skiing is also possible and the skiing conditions are suitable for both beginners and moderately advanced skiers.

Around 400 metres from the cottage, we have a multi-purpose playing field with a clay surface for various types of ballgames. You can also play the popular games of petanque and croquet at the cottage.

In winter season (November - April) parking is available 2,5 km from the cottage. Free transport is provided.

The total capacity of the Vatra Cottage comprises 50 beds in 15 rooms. 6 rooms have en-suite bathroom and toilet facilities. One room only has a shower while 5 rooms have a sink with hot water.

The restaurant offers Czech and international cuisine with friendly family service. There is a terrace in front of the cottage offering wonderful views of the beautiful Giant Mountains. In the summertime, you can enjoy a pleasant evening with a barbecue by the cottage. We draw two of the best beers of Czech Republic - Budweiser Budvar and Pilsner Urquell.

We are happy to organise various social events for you such as buffet receptions, wedding parties, etc.

We have a private ski lift, which is about 250 metres long. Evening skiing is also possible and the skiing conditions are suitable for both beginners and moderately advanced skiers. For more demanding skiers, the ski lift for the Davidovka ski run is about 200 metres away from the cottage. It is about 1300 metres long and it’s possible to go on skis as far as to the 4-chair lift to Medvědín and to the centre of Špindlerův Mlýn from the Davidovka ski run. You can return by taking a ski bus or by agreement.

Because of its location, the cottage is an ideal base for cross-country skiing and hiking tours. The ski trails are very well laid out.

In the summertime, there are a lot of hiking and bike tracks, which are also very well laid out.
