Sozopol is the oldest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast. Established in 610 B. C. as Ellinis colony by Greeks under the name of Apolonia Pontica, reached its apogee in the fourth century during Roman rule, then known as Sozopolis – City of Salvation.
