Food & beverage
The rich and generous breakfast is made using fresh local and German products. It starts at 08:30 and special diets are catered for upon request. If required, we can arrange breakfast from as early as 06:30 and for self-catering guests, you can enjoy the breakfast for as little as ZAR 35 per person.
The hotel offers the famous South African Braais (barbecues) with a German influence. We include meats such as chicken, lamb, indigenous spiced sausage and ostrich. Sometimes we even have Springbok or Zebra. This comes with the traditional braai broodjie, a sandwich with onion, tomato and cheese, as well as salad and vegetables. Even if this sounds exotic, we recommend that you try it.

Area information
Somerset in the year 1862 described by Rev William Moister:
"The village itself is a pleasing object as it breaks upon the view about a mile before it is reached. Travellers … behold the lovely little village slumbering in the centre of the valley with its neat, white-washed houses and well-cultivated gardens, with extensive vineyards and farmhouses in the distance, surrounded by rocky mountains which rise a considerable altitude.
Nowadays Somerset West has become larger and more modern, but we are surrounded by the Hottentots Holland Mountains with the Helderberg as our “name giver”. There are 600 acres of forest, natural scrubland and vineyards, yet it is only 10 minutes to the beach and we are close to Cape Town. The local attractions include the famous Table Mountain, Strand and Gordon’s Bay Beaches and the V&A Waterfront. Experience the Helderberg’s five main attractions: the historic Vergelegen Wine Estate, Helderberg Nature Reserve, whale and penguin watching off Hermanus, Monkey Town primate sanctuary and visit the people in Lwandle and its labour museum.
