Lorden Lodge

This lodge is a 9 bedroom guest house set on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain within the Hottentots Holland Mountain Range, overlooking Somerset West near Cape Town.

Despite such a beautiful situation amongst the stunning scenery of mountains and countryside, the excellent location is conveniently near the city centre, Somerset’s shopping centre and Gordons Bay with its entertainment district, modern amenities and harbour. In the vicinity, there is also a traditional village which offers typical arts and crafts, museums and Sir Lowry’s Pass with panoramic views of the landscape.

The lodge offers an outdoor swimming pool, airport shuttle and tastefully decorated, comfortable and contemporary accommodation with free parking and private entrances, consisting of a range of rooms with en suite facilities and superb views of Somerset West, False Bay, Gordons Bay and the Strand, accommodation at its very best.

The 9 superbly appointed en suite bedrooms all include separate external access, secure parking and the use of the fantastic swimming pool.

Breakfast is served indoors or around the swimming pool if the weather permits.

Take an evening stroll along the Gordons Bay harbour wall. Harbour cruises leave daily and can be booked from the hotel. The new Gordons Bay waterfront development of Harbour Island is an exciting entertainment area with many restaurants, pubs and accommodation facilities.

Somerset Mall is the shopping Mecca of the Helderberg. All major stores can be found in this prestigious shopping venue. It is simply the most comprehensive regional shopping experience in the Cape.

Sir Lowry’s Pass was constructed and opened on the 6th of July 1830. It is a viewing point offering panoramic views of the entire Helderberg basin and large parts of the Cape Peninsula. The summit of the pass is also a popular launching spot for paragliders.

The melting pot of Africa, Indibano African Village offers various exciting tastes and a traditional atmosphere which is truly African. While at the village, take a leisurely stroll and admire the exquisite objects d' art and curios available from internationally recognised African artists. The sculptures are all made in the traditional medium of wood and soapstone. While there enjoy traditional culinary delights which are prepared on open fires.

By Car:
From Cape Town international airport:
- Take a left turn at the sign for Somerset West.
- Travel for approximately 32 km on the motorway and then take the number 43 exit for Helderberg/Boulevard Avenue, approximately 5 km after the Engen garage.
- At the top of the off-ramp, turn left at the traffic lights.
- After 1 km travelling straight on, turn right at the traffic light into Main Road.
- Travel for 1.3 km straight ahead and after the BP garage, turn right off Main Road for Lorden Lodge.
- The signs for the bed and breakfast are very clear as you can see them flashing.

From Port Elizabeth:
- Head down Sir Lowry's Pass along the N2.
- At the 3rd traffic light, turn right into Victoria Street.
- Turn left at the 4th traffic light into Main Road.
- After 3 traffic lights you will see a Thai Restaurant on your right, but turn left and immediately right following the signs for Ballyna House, the former name of Lorden Lodge.
- The lodge is 200 metres straight ahead.

From Stellenbosch:
- Enter Somerset West.
- At the 1st traffic light at the Lord Charles Hotel, turn left into Main Road.
- Go straight on for 1.3 km and then follow the instructions above.
