Emerald Backpackers offers convenience, comfort and a free of charge shuttle service from Johannesburg O R Tambo International Airport to visitors who want to explore the heart of South Africa.

There are a choice of either an 8-bed or 10-bed dormitory, and all the amenities you might need, including internet access, a restaurant, a well-stocked bar and a fully equipped kitchen. Wander around the premises of the Emerald Backpackers and enjoy the lovely gardens and 2 swimming pools.

Should you want to rent a car, the Emerald staff will make all the arrangements for you. Alternatively, you can join one of the day trips on offer to Johannesburg, Soweto, Pretoria or the diamond and gold mines of the area. Longer tours to Kruger National Park, the largest game reserve in South Africa, are also available.

From R24 / Johannesburg:
▪ Follow signs to the airport, but instead of turning into the airport take the R21 towards Pretoria.
▪ After the airport, take the Voortrekker Road off ramp.
▪ Turn right at the traffic light (road splits 3ways).
▪ Follow the Rhodesfield sign.
▪ The road joins Albatross Street at the 1st traffic light.
▪ Turn left at the 2nd traffic light into Gladiator Street (2nd hand car dealers on both corners).
▪ Carry on to stop sign (church on your left).
▪ Turn left into Kingfisher Street.
▪ Turn right into Halifax Street.
▪ Emerald Backpackers is at number 19 on your right.

From Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport:
▪ Coming out of the airport, take the R21 towards Pretoria (airport on your right).
▪ Take the Voortrekker Road off ramp.
▪ Turn right at the traffic light (road splits 3ways).
▪ Follow the Rhodesfield sign.
▪ Follow directions above (From R24 / Johannesburg) from step 5.

From Pretoria (N1):
▪ Take the R21 towards Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport.
▪ Take the Voortrekker Road off ramp / Airfreight sign board.
▪ Turn left at the traffic light (road splits 3ways) and keep left.
▪ Follow the Rhodesfield sign.
▪ Follow directions above (From R24 / Johannesburg) from step 5.

Important information

There is a curfew at 11pm year round for your safety. Late arrivals can be arranged with the hotel when booking.

Cancellation policy:		Cancellation Policy: If cancelled up to 14 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled up to 7 days before date of arrival, 30 percent of all nights will be charged. If cancelled up to 4 days before date of arrival, 75 percent of all nights will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged. Children and Extra Bed Policy: Children older than 16 years are welcome. There is no capacity for extra beds/cots in the room. Deposit Policy: The total price of the reservation will be charged on the day of booking and is refundable. VAT and city/tourist taxes: VAT is included. Service charge is included. City/tourist tax is included. Internet: Wired internet is available in public areas and costs ZAR 60.00 per hour. Meal Plan: Breakfast is not included and costs ZAR 30.00 per person. Parking: Free private parking is possible on site (reservation is needed). Pets: Pets are not allowed. The hotel reserves the right to pre-authorise credit cards prior to arrival.
