Makalali Private Game Lodge

Situated in the centre of the Karongwe Private Game Reserve, this lodge offers air-conditioned chalets with a fireplace and open-plan bathroom. The outdoor swimming pool is romantically enclosed by trees and bushes.

Overlooking the Drakensberg Mountain Range, all chalets at Makalali Private Game Lodge come with a telephone and ceiling fan. Mosquito nets and insect repellent are provided in each accommodation.

Meals are served in the dining lounge, which has a thatched roof that balances on large pillars. Guests can also use this area to relax by the fireplace or to plan a safari trip to Kruger National Park (50 km).

Massages and a babysitting service can be arranged upon request. It is also possible to book an airport shuttle to OR Tambo Airport, 450 km away. It takes a 5-hour drive to reach Johannesburg.

The distance from Johannesburg to Makalali is 506km
Take the N1 North towards Pretoria
Take the N4 east to eMalahleni (previously Witbank) and onwards to Belfast ( Pretoria to Belfast ± 240km)
Turn left off the highway to Belfast
In Belfast, turn right at Belfast Toyota onto the Dullstroom / Mashishing (previously Lydenberg) road (R540)
At the T-Junction (R540 & R36) turn left to Mashishing (previously Lydenberg)
In Mashishing (previously Lydenberg), at the Ohrigstad sign, turn left and follow the main road of Mashishing (previously Lydenberg) ( De Clerq Street ) on the Ohrigstad road (R36)
Follow the R36 through Ohrigstad and through the Strijdom Tunnel
Turn left towards Tzaneen at the next T-junction (still R36). There is a Total garage on your left – This is also your last petrol stop before the lodge
Follow the road over the Olifants River, past the Oaks (local village) and past Phalaborwa / Mica turnoff (± 10 km) and follow Makalali signs
Turn right at Gravelotte turnoff (D202), this road becomes a gravel road. Go through the boom gate
Travel ± 17 km on the gravel road to the Makalali Main Gate on your right hand side

Please note that Makalali is situated in a malaria area and that precautions are essential. Long sleeved shirts and trousers for game drives and the evening hours are recommend.
