This reserve is situated in the heart of the malaria-free Eastern Cape, only 40 minutes from East London Airport and 30 minutes from the city centre and beaches.

With its rolling hills and river valleys, this 3,500 hectare reserve is home to elephants, lions, rhinos, buffalos, hippos, giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope and bird species. A fusion of European style and African decorations ensures that the deluxe suites offer the ideal setting for relaxation after a day of safari.

There are many unique, world class facilities including conference rooms, a boardroom, boma, and several activities such as game drives and swimming. The reserve seeks to cater to the heart of even the keenest eco-tourist.

Travel information

By Car (from East London Airport):
- Once out of the parking area, turn left at the traffic lights onto the Settlers motorway, heading towards East London city centre.
- Continue driving straight on the Settlers motorway, which will change into Fleet Street after the Biko bridge.
- At the roundabout (traffic circle), proceed straight to the Fleet Street and Fitzpatrick intersection.
- Turn left into Fitzpatrick.
- Proceed straight on the North-East Expressway, leading out of the city.
- Continue straight on the North-East Expressway. You will pass the Pearce Street and Beacon Bay off-ramps. Pass the Sasol garage on the left and keep going straight.
- At the roundabout (traffic circle), turn left onto the N6 motorway towards Sutterheim / Queenstown.
- When you see the turn-off for Newlands, slow down as a board indicating Mpongo will soon be visible on your right-hand side.
- The next turn-off to your left will be St. Luke’s. Turn left onto St. Luke’s.
- Continue on this road and Mpongo Private Game Reserve will be situated on your right side.
- Proceed through the large thatch entrance, around the circle, to the set of gates.
