Dar Nour

Dar Nour was the first guest house to open in Tangier. Opened in 1999, Dar Nour is a genuinely beautiful, old Kasbah house, built on different levels, filled with nooks and crannies, and restored with a true feeling for beauty and simplicity.

Dar Nour means « the house of light », and the aim was to accent the sunlight playing on the whitewashed walls. The travel guide Géo , and French magazines such as Le Point, Capital, L’art de voyager, and Jalouse all agree that it is the top place to stay in Tangier. Other international magazines such as Elle, Travel Leisure, Gente Viaje, Le goût de Tanger, and Numéro have all written articles about Dar Nour.

Artists, intellectuals, writers, and film makers have stayed there and found it to be a real inspiring relaxing place.

Dar Nour is owned and managed by Philippe G.B, absolute in love with Tangier where he decided to settle in 1993.
Former manager of the Librairie des Colonnes and chief redactor of the local magazine D3, he is one of the outmost connaisseurs of the city and its arcane s.
Dar Nour is well-known for its furniture and other pieces collected in the Arab world over the last fifteen years, including bookcases crammed with books from many countries, carpets and wall hangings, old pottery and other items from the old Tangier. The house is elegant in its simplicity and in the history of the objects to be found there..

In a few short years Dar Nour has gained a reputation for offering some of the best Moroccan cuisine in Tangier.

Abdellatif, our chef, honed his cooking skills with the women who worked here before. Little by little, he and Philippe, the owner, have taken a different approach, and created new dishes which retain the subtleties of the Moroccan use of spices.

As our guests need rest and are on holiday.The breakfast table is available until all guests at Dar Nour have taken their breakfast.

In the centre of town, Dar Nour is built on the 14th century Kasbah ramparts, facing the new town and the bay of Tangier. Overlooking the medina, the rooftop terraces offer wonderful 360° views of the town which have been used on the covers of several books and magazines. The front door at the end of a cul-de-sac where the writers Mohamed Choukri and Zouber Ben Bouchta lived allows you to enter a house with seven rooms, suites and mini-suites and two sitting rooms.

Karim and Abdou, the taxi drivers Dar Nour is working with can collect and take you to the airport.

Drive past the football stadium, and the Institut Pasteur (both on your left) and then take the second turning on the left after the Institut Pasteur (Rue Kacem Guenoun), a winding street which will take you to an uphill slope and an imposing Arab-Andalus city gate, the Kasbah Gate. Park on the left before the gate, as this is a guarded car park.Dar Nour is a few meters away.

There is guarded parking by the entrance to the Kasbah, only 50 meters from the house.
